Long Bay Beach is the closest beach to the Township, traveling 3km northwest of Coromandel Town along Macgregors Bay and stunning scenery. Depending on the tides it can be a short walk across the sand flats. Access is from Long Bay Motor Camp. Public Parking along beach front. There is a camp store as well as a play park for the kids / a rope swing and bench seating. Take a walk around to Tucks Bay and onto the Kauri Grove track and marvel at the native Kauri at different stages of growth - it is a  beautiful & gentle walk                                                                    in a perfect beach setting.

How to get there? Well is it a bit of a local secret . . but we'll let you in on it -
Cross the stream at the northern end of Whangapoua Beach and follow the rocky foreshore around to the headland. There is a track that takes you over the saddle and down into New Chums Beach through a wonderful grove of nikau and pohutukawa. If your lucky you will have the beach to yourself.
Note: you can get access to New Chums beach regardless of the tide. You will not get blocked in however you might get a little bit wet if you choose to cross at high tide. 
You may have red about this beach in the Lonely Planet Guide which named it one of the top 20 must see beaches in New Zealand.

Positioned at the end of a quiet road, Wyuna Bay Beach is a hidden treasure! Take a journey out to isolated paradise and take in the silence. 5 km west of Coromandel Town, there are two  ramps for launching and retrieving boats. Public toilets & ample parking.

Whangapoua Beach is a popular surf beach with safe swimming. 19.5 km east of Coromandel Town. With a play park for the kids and a local general store for supplies there's everything you need for a great day out by the sea. White sands stretch over - with sheltered areas for rock fishing & spear diving

Waitete Bay is a beautiful swimming beach. There is ample parking along the beach front. 17.9km north of Coromandel Town.

Waikawau Bay beach is a long sandy surf beach with access to the beach through the DOC camp ground. The beach is not as affected by the tides unlike the western side of the peninsula. The beach, on a good day has a great surf break.

Oamaru Bay Beach is a safe swimming beach and very family friendly. At low tide it is possible to walk across the sand flats from Long Bay or Shelley beach. There is ample public parking along the grassy verge. Positioned 6.5 km north of Coromandel Town. Picnic table / Swimming Raft / Kayaks available from nearby Oamaru Bay Holiday Park. Public Restrooms close by.
