Department of Conservation (DOC) Campsites
The Department of Conservation’s (DOC) online booking service will be available from early November 2011. Unfortunately no bookings will be accepted for the peak summer season prior to the booking system going live. If you wish to camp at the DOC campsites, prior to the introduction of the online booking system, they are open for use and are operating on a first come, first serve basis. Northern Coromandel
Top of the peninsula: five campgrounds at the top of the peninsula offer remote coastal experiences in superb settings. Waikawau Bay and Stony Bay on the eastern side, Fletcher Bay and Port Jackson on the north coast, and Fantail Bay on the western side. All campgrounds have toilets. .
Note: Camping is prohibited on any public place including reserves, beaches and on the roadside. In this context camping shall include the use of any vehicle for sleeping whether or not it is specifically set out for sleeping. Bylaw officers patrol public places and will require persons found camping in a public place to move on. Help keep our land beautiful and use the facilities of the available camp grounds.

Waikawau
Waikawau Bay has beach front campsites in a rural setting. The bay has a long sweeping white sand surf beach perfect for a number of family activities

From Coromandel take the Colville Rd for 22km to Whangaahei Junction, turn right into Port Charles Rd, then right into Waikawau Beach Rd and follow for 5 km to the camp. Camp in peaceful surroundings beneath pohutakawa trees. A tramping track leads to the bush line with outstanding views. Short walks, fishing, diving and swimming. Location 44 km north of Coromandel.

Fletcher Bay
Number of tent sites - 75This is a beach front campsite in a farm setting. Walk along the Coromandel Coastal Walkway to Stony Bay; an ideal location for water sports including swimming, boating, diving and fishing. 64km north of Coromandel. Drive to Port Jackson:
from Coromandel take the Colville Road for 22km until the Whangaahei
Junction, then turn left and follow the Port Jackson Road. Fletcher Bay

| Stony Bay
This is a spacious (5 ha) campsite beside the coast. Walk to Fletcher Bay along the Coromandel Walkway. Good fishing and diving nearby.
55 km north of Coromandel. From Coromandel take the Colville Rd for 22km until the Whangaahei Junction, then turn right and follow the Port Charles Rd to Sandy Bay, and then the Stony Bay Rd until the end. Grid reference: NZTM2000, E1816877-N5956498 |
Port Jackson
At the northern tip of the Peninsula, this campsite is at the waters edge next to a beach. Maori archaeological sites are nearby including middens and a wahi tapu (sacred) site. Explore the area by foot or relax on the beach. 58 km north of Coromandel. From Coromandel take the Colville Road for 22km until the Whangaahei Junction, then turn left and follow the Port Jackson Road for 28km until you get to Fantail Bay. From Fantail Bay follow the road for a futher 8km.
