Great Coromandel Coastal Clean-Up 2012 - 3rd to 5th March
Huge community clean-up for Coromandel
Last April, over 550 school students and volunteers joined us for a huge coastal clean-up based in Coromandel. Volunteers from near and far teamed-up to hit beaches around the western side the Coromandel Peninsula, removing 58,000 litres – nearly two full shipping containers – of rubbish from the beautiful coast and outlying islands.
Now we are looking for volunteers to help out with a massive clean-up based in Coromandel Town on Saturday 3 March. Just as we did last year, volunteers will head out on foot and boats will run clean-up missions to the outlying islands. To top it all off, participants will have the opportunity to camp overnight in the native bush-clad Tucks Bay, with a big BBQ celebration planned there on Saturday evening. To register for the big clean-up on Saturday 3 March, fill in the quick volunteer registration form here.
We are still looking for help to make this event happen. If your business wants great exposure in return for support, please contact Event Director Ryley Webster on 021 040 9014 or email ryley@sustainablecoastlines.org
Camping for volunteers
Just as we did last year, event participants will have the chance to stay on both the Friday and Saturday nights at our volunteer campground at Tucks Bay, part of the stunning Long Bay Motor Camp. This secluded bay, surrounded by native bush, will be ours for the weekend and will also be the venue for a post-event barbecue and celebration on Saturday evening after the clean-up. Check out a map of Tucks Bay here.
Tickets for camping will be available soon through www.1-night.co.nz -- watch this space for the announcement.
