 |
| This service is provided free of charge to the community of Coromandel Town & the general public by the Geoinformatics Research Centre in the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). The Centre operates an international network of climate and atmospheric monitoring instruments, which collect micro-climate data transmitted to AUT University researchers for analysis and environmental modelling. Placement of instruments in Coromandel is geospatially important for the research of the Centre because of its Easterly position with a Westerly aspect. This location is part of the Centre’s international grid network and provides data that assists its environmental modelling network. |
AUT University has a purposeful community engagement profile and this contribution to the community of Coromandel Town is integral to its mission & profile.
The centre is directed by Professor Phillip Sallis who with his wife Dr Kathy Garden own property in Coromandel Town and travel between here, Auckland and the International locations operated by AUT Research Centre. |
| The weather information provided here is not “official” in that it is not connected in any way with the NZ Meteorological Service but as Professor Sallis says, “I am personally satisfied that the data we are collecting and the information we are providing is accurate scientifically. It is specific to this location. No other guarantees about it can be given though and people should always consult the official weather service for comprehensive information on marine, coastal and landfall climate conditions.” |
